# Tenant notification settings

> Configure organization-wide notification policies, default preferences, and whether users can customize their own notification settings.

<Info>
  This page covers organization-wide notification settings that can be controlled by admins. For user-facing notification preferences, see [Your notification settings](/product/admin/notifications-user-settings).
</Info>

## Before you begin: Set up Slack or Microsoft Teams integrations

Once Slack or Microsoft Teams is configured for your organization, that delivery channel's column appears in the notification settings table and as a digest option. You can then use the bulk checkboxes and lock icons to manage those channels the same way as email.

* To set up Slack, see [Set up the Slack app](/product/admin/slack-application).
* To set up Microsoft Teams, see [Set up the Microsoft Teams app](/product/admin/ms-teams-public).

## Update organization-wide notification settings

To set default notification preferences for your organization and control whether users can customize their own settings:

<Steps>
  <Step>
    Navigate to **Settings** > **Notifications**.
  </Step>

  <Step>
    In the **Notifications** area of the page, click **Edit**.
  </Step>

  <Step>
    To enable or disable an entire delivery channel across all notification types, click the bulk checkbox next to the **Email**, **Slack**, or **Teams** column header.
  </Step>

  <Step>
    To configure individual notification types, check or uncheck the boxes for each notification type and delivery channel.
  </Step>

  <Step>
    Click **Save** to apply your changes.
  </Step>
</Steps>

### Lock and unlock notification settings

Each notification type row has a lock icon. When a setting is locked, users can see it but cannot change it on their personal notification settings page — their preference is overridden by the tenant default. When unlocked, users can customize that setting themselves.

To lock or unlock a notification setting:

<Steps>
  <Step>
    Navigate to **Settings** > **Notifications**.
  </Step>

  <Step>
    In the **Notifications** area of the page, click **Edit**.
  </Step>

  <Step>
    Click the lock icon next to the notification type you want to lock or unlock.
  </Step>

  <Step>
    Click **Save** to apply your changes.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Update C1 digest defaults

Set the default digest delivery preferences for your organization. Digest notifications contain a summary of C1 tasks requiring attention and are only sent when a user has at least one pending task or expiring access item.

<Steps>
  <Step>
    Navigate to **Settings** > **Notifications**.
  </Step>

  <Step>
    In the **C1 digest** area of the page, click **Edit**.
  </Step>

  <Step>
    If necessary, click the toggle to enable **Send C1 digest**.
  </Step>

  <Step>
    Choose the default digest frequency:

    * **Daily**: Delivered on weekdays at 9 AM Pacific time.
    * **Weekly**: Delivered on the weekday of your choice at 10 AM Pacific time.
  </Step>

  <Step>
    Click to select the default delivery channel: email, Slack, or Microsoft Teams.
  </Step>

  <Step>
    Click **Save** to apply your changes.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## How defaults apply to users

* **New users** automatically receive the default notification preferences you configure and can customize their settings if the relevant settings are unlocked.
* **Existing users** keep their current settings when you update tenant defaults. If you lock a setting, their preference is overridden by the tenant default. If you unlock a setting, they can modify it again.

Users inherit tenant defaults when:

* Their account is created.
* You lock a previously unlocked setting.
* They click **Reset to defaults** in their notification preferences.

## Make notifications work for your organization

* **Start with defaults unlocked**: Allow users to customize notifications based on their role and workload.
* **Lock time-sensitive notifications**: Consider locking task alerts for access reviews so users can't opt out.
* **Use bulk checkboxes carefully**: Disabling an entire delivery channel affects all users in your organization.
* **Communicate changes**: Let users know when you lock settings that affect their notification experience.
